The Casino Filter of Life
Today I'm going to share with you a filter I've used for a long time and I've found useful. I hope it helps you.
If you don't know what a filter is, here's a brief explanation. You can Google or ChatGPT for more detailed information:
A filter is a way of looking at your world that helps you explain and navigate reality. It's not a perfect explanation of reality because we probably can't figure out exactly what that is anyway. But, a filter can better prepare you for all the things going on in life, business, and relationships. You can try any number of filters that you want. It's fun to figure out which ones work for you and which ones are less successful (like a game!).
I call this The Casino Filter of Life.
Life is like a casino.
-
Over a long enough period of time, you will eventually lose everything. It's guaranteed. No exceptions.
-
You have a few bankrolls to play with: Energy, Wealth (which is also a kind of energy), Time, and Emotional
-
You have to make bets or take risks all the time. Doing nothing is not an option. They'll ask you to leave the casino. It'll be a short visit.
-
Your luck will change many times while you're playing. Bankrolls can go to the stratosphere and can hit the felt just as easily. You'd be surprised at how much control you have over this.
-
Some games you play are riskier than others. Some games look exciting, but can wipe you out in a hurry. Others look like a total snoozefest, but can keep you in the running long enough to win big.
-
It pays to learn the rules of the games. When you know the rules, you can come up with a better strategy that pumps your bankrolls faster and keeps them there longer.
-
You can never eliminate all risk while you're playing in the casino.
-
At the table you can usually only see other peoples' wealth bankrolls. That's it. You don't know how much time they have left in the casino, if they're tired or energized, or if they're happy or depressed. Most people know this and like to make a show of how big their chip stacks are.
-
You don't have to make a show of how big your chip stacks are. It's better if you don't.
-
Someone will always have a bigger chip stack than you. Get used to it.
-
The guy with the biggest chip stack probably owns the casino and isn't at the table with you anyway.
-
If you like somebody you're playing with, it's okay to tell them and keep playing with them. That might boost your energy bankroll just by being around them. If you find some happy winners, try playing with them for a while and see if your luck changes.
-
If you know exactly what you're doing, and you're willing to work at it, you can get a small, temporary edge against the casino. It's hard, and if you get caught, you could be in some trouble (it's not cheating, cheating always gets you in trouble).
-
A bonus to this is people won't believe you if you try to explain how you developed an edge. They'll say it's impossible or it's total luck. Maybe they're right, but nobody will react in a way that suggests they think you're telling the truth unless you're the most famous person at it. However, at that point you're figured out and your edge goes away. The casino knows who you are now and they watch you like a hawk. Other players will start adopting your methods and it's no longer useful to you. If you get an edge, you can share your methods to be helpful to other players, but be humble about it. The odds will swing out of your favor at some point and being the loudest loser is rarely a good thing.
-
Nothing in the casino is free even if sometimes it feels like it is.
-
Getting wasted in the casino is cheap and feels good. It's also a great way to hit the felt hard.
-
It's okay to share your bankrolls with other players that you like. Just don't make a big deal out of it when you do and don't expect much in return even if they win with it. Just be happy they're winning and you helped them win a little.
-
You're allowed to enjoy your time in the casino.
If you like this filter and it works for you, share it with someone because you might be doing them a huge favor.
I'm rooting for you.
To future worlds, Matt Ventre
